On June 11, 2012 the Dunderdale Government introduced Bill 29 - AN ACT TO AMEND THE ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT.
What followed was the longest filibuster to date in the history of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly.
On June 14, among growing public dissatisfaction, the Government House Leader invoked closure of the legislature and rammed Bill 29 through the House of Assembly. The Bill received Royal Assent on June 27, 2012.
An NDP Government would repeal Bill 29, and while in opposition the NDP Caucus will continue to fight in favour of transparency and accountability.
