NDP Housing Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) said today the provincial government must take leadership as the Department of National Defence vacates housing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

As residents of the province start planning for spring and summer lawn care, the NDP Environment Critic is expressing disappointment in the regulations government has introduced around cosmetic pesticides.

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) says a report released last week by the Canadian Institute for Health Information contains some alarming numbers.

The CIHI measured how 600 hospitals across the country rate on several indicators of patient care, including deaths after being treated for specific conditions, and re-admissions after major surgeries.

NDP Fisheries Critic Christopher Mitchelmore (The Straits-White Bay North) says the government’s announcement of financial assistance for Carino today is a good step.

“I am happy to see the government offering this support for a traditional industry that is so important to rural Newfoundland and Labrador,” Mitchelmore said today.

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please! The hon. the Leader of the Third Party.

MS MICHAEL: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker.

A member of the provincial NDP caucus asked government again today to lower the business tax on small businesses in the province from 4 per cent to 3 per cent.

MR. SPEAKER: The hon. the Leader of the Third Party.

MS MICHAEL: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker.

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill – Quidi Vidi) is appalled that the government is dismissing the province’s Public Utilities Board’s report on the feasibility of the Muskrat Falls project – and that it is apparently dismissing the PUB itself.
