On Wednesday, November 20, 2013 NDP Justice Critic Gerry Rogers introduced a Private Member's Motion which called on Government to reinstate the Family Violence Intervention Court.

 

MR. SPEAKER: The hon. the Member for St. John’s Centre.

MS ROGERS: Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

The minister said he cut the Family Violence Intervention Court because it only had twenty-six cases last year, but his numbers were based on only half the year. By the end of the fiscal year, there were forty-four cases.

The Transportation Safety Board recently released its report into the accident in Portugal Cove involving the Beaumont Hamel. The report cites issues with crew fatigue, such as long hours and little rest.

In Happy Valley-Goose Bay and in Bonavista overworked registered nurses are forced to shoulder the burden of extra work due to permanent and temporary vacancies. Nurses are even working twenty-four hour shifts because of this situation.
