Budget 2016 has once again cut funding for the province's libraries. This time, the Liberals are closing 54 libraries, almost all of them in rural areas.

The closures leave up to 15% of residents more than a 30-minute drive from a library. Thousands of people -- children, seniors, families, people needing Internet access -- will now be unable to acess a library at all.

NDP House Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi) is inviting residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to sign a petition against the most regressive move in the most regressive budget this province has ever seen.


Holy Cross JHS is an important neighbourhood school with programs, community partnerships and extra-curricular activities designed to meet the particular needs of the inner city students who attend it. The appointed, unelected English School Board trustees have proposed to close down Holy Cross Junior High School.

As many as 1 in 88 children are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, and individualized and intensive early interventions are important to ensure the best possible outcomes. Too many families have to wait for assessments, diagnostic services and treatment.


Here is one of the things I love most about this festive season. In our hemisphere, December marks the darkest time of the year. The days are shorter and the cold weather is settling in.

But the celebrations and the decorations are all about peace, light and joy.
Christmas brings light just when we need it most.


It’s December and we’re all so busy.. We're stretched for time or money, we're running trying to get everything done….. the right gift for everyone, finding a tree, decorating, cooking, running from concert to concert. It can all feel so overwhelming!

Government rejected a call by the Voisey's Bay Industrial Inquiry Commission to provide a process for the imposition of a collective agreement when all else has failed, the only recommendation that they out-and-out refused to consider.
