Advisory: MHA Gerry Rogers to attend federal LGBTQ2 apology
Gerry Rogers, MHA for St. John’s Centre, is in Ottawa today to participate in the Prime Minister of Canada’s apology to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and two-spirit people living in Canada.
The apology is part of recognizing the historically unjust treatment of LGBTQ2 people through federal legislation, programs, and policy.
Gerry Rogers says it’s a very important, and overdue, moment for LGBTQ2 folks across the country.
“This apology is long overdue. People's lives were horribly affected by discriminatory government policies. It is my hope the apology also includes restitution for those who lost jobs and opportunities because of this injustice and that government makes a commitment to eradicate all forms of discrimination against LGBTQ2 people,” Rogers said.
