MHA Rogers requests information on Dunphy investigation

NDP Justice Critic, Gerry Rogers

NDP MHA Gerry Rogers (St. John’s Centre) has asked the minister of Justice and Public Safety for an update on the investigation into the April 2015 shooting of Donald Dunphy.

In May the RCMP indicated that the results of the investigation would be available after August 15. Rogers would like to know if the minister – or anyone in his office – has received a copy of the report. “When will this report be made public?” she asked in a letter sent to the minister this morning.

On April 5, 2015, Dunphy was shot and killed in his home by a member of the premier’s protective services unit. The officer was alone, and there were no witnesses to the event.

Rogers reminded the minister of the gravity of the situation. “It’s been five months since Mr. Dunphy was killed in his own home. It is about time his family and the public get some answers.”

In her letter, Rogers also asked the minister when he will be calling for a judicial inquiry into this shooting.
