NDP calls for forensic audit, expert consultation for Muskrat Falls inquiry
In the House of Assembly today, the NDP Leader asked questions surrounding the long overdue judicial inquiry into the Muskrat Falls project, as well as oversight management. Premier Ball recently announced that government would proceed with an inquiry this fall after all, but Lorraine Michael (MHA, St. John’s East - Quidi Vidi) says the success of the inquiry depends greatly on the Terms of Reference.
“I ask the Premier, will he ensure that a forensic audit precedes or is part of the inquiry?” said Michael.
Michael also asked the Premier if he will consult with experts and concerned members of the public before drafting the Terms of Reference for the inquiry.
Michael is concerned about Government’s competence in the oversight of the Muskrat Falls project. She raised how the public recently learned that Nalcor has nearly 500 “embedded contractors” working on the project. Michael asks why there was no public mention of these contractors until almost two years after the Liberals took power.
“I ask the Premier, when did he learn of these 500 embedded contractors? Why has he not made the issue of these embedded contractors public before now?”
