NDP MHAs hitting the road to consult with public

Two NDP MHAs want to know what residents of the province are concerned about – and they’re hitting the road to speak to people directly.

Christopher Mitchelmore, MHA for The Straits-White Bay North, and Gerry Rogers, MHA for St. John’s Centre, will visit six different communities on the island portion of the province. Besides the meetings they have scheduled with municipal officials, students, economic development groups and other organizations, the pair will conduct a series of Town Hall meetings open to anyone who wishes to attend.

“At the Town Halls, we’ll be talking about housing issues primarily, because we have been hearing from people everywhere in the province that finding and paying for housing is a huge problem that’s growing,” explained Rogers, “but we’re open to hearing anything else people would like to talk about: their concerns and hopes for their communities in particular.”

“I am looking forward to meeting people and hearing their concerns firsthand,” concurred Mitchelmore. “I hope that they will come out and tell us what is on their minds so that we can bring the issues of the province to the House of Assembly when it opens on March 5.”

The two MHAs will be at; the St. Anthony Lions Club from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4; the Norris Point Town Hall from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5; the Stephenville Women’s Centre at 9:00 a.m. and the Grenfell Campus, room LC 301 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6; the Exploits Community Centre from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Fe. 7; and the Clarenville Royal Canadian Legion from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
