NDP urges Premier to put housing on agenda as crucial issue

NDP Housing Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) has written a letter to Premier Dunderdale imploring her to raise housing issues at the Council of the Federation meetings taking place this week.

Rogers stated in the letter that the housing crisis in Newfoundland and Labrador has been getting worse, and that the provincial government needs to develop a strategy to deal with complex housing issues.

“I urge you to ask the Federal Government to take leadership in this crisis and call for an immediate federal-provincial-territorial housing ministers' meeting in order to develop a collaborative approach to solutions,” wrote Rogers.

“The premier must first acknowledge that we have a crisis,” said Rogers, “because this crisis is not going to go away on its own.”
