NDP Housing critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) questioned the provincial government on its commitment to affordable housing.

Rogers reminded those on the government benches of a promise in their 2011 election campaign “Blue Book” to help families with relatively low incomes purchase modestly-priced homes.

 

Today in the House of Assembly NDP Critic for Advanced Education and Skills Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North), asked Government about cuts to the Job Creation Partnership (JCP) funding as well as re-training opportunities for underemployed Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

 

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) questioned government’s commitment to road maintenance in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. In a recent CAA poll, five out of 10 of the worst roads in Atlantic Canada were deemed to be in this province. Two of them, the Harbour Breton and Elliston highways, are the locations of highway depots that are now closed.

Come Home Year

Mr. Speaker,

I rise today to extend an invitation to all honourable members in this House – and everyone in the province – to come share some festive times this summer in my district.

 

As members of the arts community gather in Gander for the 27th Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council Arts Awards Show, NDP Tourism, Culture and Recreation critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) is questioning government’s commitment to the province’s cultural industries.

 

People in communities in every corner of the province are having problems finding affordable housing, and NDP Housing critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) is appalled that this week’s provincial budget is doing nothing to help with the escalating housing crisis.
