NDP seeks truth behind job ads rumour

NDP MHA Christopher Mitchelmore (The Straits-White Bay North) asked the minister of Service Newfoundland and Labrador if persistent rumours he has been hearing about plans for government job advertisements are based in fact.

“I have been informed the provincial government positions will only be advertised on their website from now on, and not in newspapers,” Mitchelmore said in the House today.

“Mr. Speaker, not everyone has access to or can afford this technology. If true, it sends a message that government is only interested in job applicants who do.”

Mitchelmore has been persistent in his calls for equal access to broadband internet services in the province.

“Will the minister of Service Newfoundland and Labrador confirm if they are moving to on-line job advertisements exclusively, and what this means for applicants who live in the 200-plus communities of the province that do not have high-speed internet?” Mitchelmore asked in the House today.
