Michael wants status report on Power Advisory report
NDP Parliamentary Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) wants to know what’s happening with a report government commissioned last August for an independent review of the province’s electrical system. Power Advisory LLC was awarded the contract, which is worth $284, 826, based on its response to an April 2014 Request for Proposals.
This review was in addition to the reviews being done by the Public Utilities Board, Liberty Consulting, Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro, and Newfoundland Power, and was expected to be completed by the end of the 2014-15 fiscal year – March 31.
“Last year government contracted Power Advisory LLC to examine the operation, management and regulation of the current electricity system to ensure reliability and security as well as a smooth transition into an interconnected system,” Michael said in the House of Assembly today.
“I ask the Premier, where is that report, most recently promised in the Speech from the Throne? “
Michael is wondering what government thinks it will find out from the now-delayed report, and whether it will take any action to prepare for another Dark NL when the report finally arrives.
“Supposedly this $280,000 review complements rather than duplicates reviews completed by the PUB, Nalcor and Newfoundland Power,” said Michael.
“I ask the Minister, what does he expect from Power Advisory that he hasn’t already seen in those reports?”
