Rogers asks for gender analysis results
The NDP Critic for the Status of Women wants to see what exactly were the results of the gender analyses the Minister says were applied to recent government legislation. Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) asked for those results today in the House of Assembly.
“The Minister Responsible for the Status of Women said she had the Women’s Policy Office apply a gender analysis to Bill One: An Act to Establish an Independent Appointments Commission,” Rogers said during Question Period.
“Will she tell us what the recommendations were of that analysis?”
Rogers is astounded that the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women rejected an NDP amendment to enshrine gender, diversity and regional representation into legislation for Bill1 An Act to Establish an Independent Appointments Commission. Women's representation on agencies, boards and commissions are still way below what they should be in 2016.
“The Minister also told us she had the Women’s Policy Office apply a gender lens to her Budget to assess how her Budget will affect women,” Rogers said.
“I would also like to see the recommendations of that analysis.”
Rogers says the Minister should make the reports of the gender analysis done on Budget 2016 and Bill 1 public, and promptly table them in the House of Assembly.
