Michael demands government talk to unions
Today in the House of Assembly NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) continued her questions from earlier this week about Corner Brook Pulp and Paper.
Michael noted that in response to one of her questions yesterday the minister of natural resources stated that he informed unions that government’s framework of assistance for the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Mill would in fact involve the power asset.
Michael asked the minister, “What assurances has he given Joe Kruger regarding his company’s power assets?”
Michael stated that union officials she spoke with have not received a briefing about the framework of assistance, even though government has briefed their employer.
“When did the minister of natural resources last meet with union officials to brief them on government’s framework of assistance?” asked Michael.
Michael asked the premier, “Will she immediately send her minister of natural resources to Corner Brook to fully brief the unions on her government’s plans?”
Michael ended her questions by asking why government has not yet informed the people of the province about their plans to help the mill remain open.
