Michael calls for Muskrat Falls transparency

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) is asking for a whole lot more transparency from government on its proposed Muskrat Falls development.

“The Minister of Natural Resources said in Question Period yesterday with regard to Muskrat Falls there is still a role for the Public Utilities Board but it will not be the same role as they would otherwise have,” Michael said in the House of Assembly today.

“Will he please tell us in this house today what the role of the PUB in relation to Muskrat Falls is going to be?”

The NDP Leader wanted to know the identity of the independent engineer with responsibility for oversight of the project. “The loan guarantee stipulates that an independent engineer must be appointed to oversee the project,” she said. “NALCOR says it has hired this independent engineer.

“I ask the Premier, what is the name of the company?”

Michael also asked if government if they would make public the reports the independent engineer overseeing every detail of the project will submit to all parties involved in the deal.
