As many as 1 in 88 children are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, and individualized and intensive early interventions are important to ensure the best possible outcomes. Too many families have to wait for assessments, diagnostic services and treatment.

 

October is Canadian Autism Awareness Month and Learning Disabilities Awareness Month and Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North), NDP Critic for Education and for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, is launching a petition, calling for a comprehensive autism spectrum disorder strategy for the province.

World Autism Awareness Day is a day set aside to bring attention to the need to help improve the lives of children and adults who suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorder so they can lead full and meaningful lives.

 

NDP Education Critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) says students with Autism Spectrum Disorder are not getting the support they need to succeed. Kirby questioned the Minister of Education on the subject today in the House of Assembly.

NDP Education Critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) is demanding the Dunderdale government take action in the upcoming budget to ensure children in the province’s schools have access to the special education programs and services they need.
