NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) had questions about fiscal management for the government in the House of Assembly today. The questions centred around the province’s 2012 budget, People and Prosperity: Responsible Investments for a Secure Future.

 

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) says the People and Prosperity budget announced today by the Dunderdale Conservatives does little to address the real needs of people in Newfoundland and Labrador, and will have a hard time living up to its sub-title, Responsible Investments for a Secure Future.

NDP Municipal Affairs Critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) hopes that a large number of municipal officials will attend pre-budget consultations around the province and tell the government face-to-face about the financial challenges facing the province’s towns.

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA Signal Hill – Quidi Vidi) says government must spend some of the province’s huge surplus to meet the needs of the people of the province.

Government today released its mid-year financial update noting the surplus has soared to $755.8 million from the projected $59 million predicted in April.
