College of the North Atlantic (CNA)

MR. SPEAKER: The hon. the Leader of the Third Party.

MS MICHAEL: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker.

In its fiscal update released today, government says spending is down by $270.1 million due to delayed infrastructure and program spending.

NDP Advanced Education and Skills critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) says the province should have come up with a better way to mark the public college system’s 50th anniversary than a series of college program cuts.

NDP Advanced Education and Skills critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) says the cuts to a Labrador campus of the College of the North Atlantic make no sense, particularly in view of promises made to the people of Labrador about employment on new development projects.

MR. SPEAKER: The hon. the Member for St. John's North.

MR. KIRBY: Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker, despite the need for licensed practical nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador, the College of the North Atlantic has not announced the new intake of LPN students at the Bay St. George Campus in Stephenville.

NDP MHA Dale Kirby (St. John’s North) is in Corner Brook today, meeting with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper workers. Kirby will also be meeting with students at the local college and university campuses.
