Torbay is one of the fastest-growing communities in the province, and will very soon need a new water supply to accommodate new homes.

 

The NDP MHA for The Straits-White Bay North is happy with the support given in the House of Assembly to his private member’s motion today.

 

NDP Environment and Conservation Critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) says the safety of the province’s drinking water is threatened, and the province must step up to defend it. Speaking in the House of Assembly today, Murphy called attention to two particular threats that have been in the news lately.

 

NDP MHA for The Straits-White Bay North Christopher Mitchelmore is concerned about the state of water supplies in the province. Today in the House of Assembly, he asked government directly about situations in his own district.

 

Christopher Mitchelmore, the NDP MHA for The Straits-White Bay North, says the province needs a new Safe Drinking Water Strategy, and he has introduced a private member’s motion into the House of Assembly that says just that.

Wednesday is Private Member’s Day in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly; Mitchelmore’s motion will be debated tomorrow.

NDP Environment and Conservation critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) had questions about boil water orders and tire recycling in the House of Assembly today.

Murphy cited Alberta which gives incentives to companies who recycle tires into other products such as walking tracks, rubber mats, and asphalt.

 

NDP Environment Critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) says this province may have received a higher grade on a drinking water report card, but it still has a lot of work to do.
