NDP Transportation and Works critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) says the way government has decided to deal with acquiring new ferries is raising at least as many questions as it answers. Today in the House of Assembly, Murphy wanted to know about the effects of the ferry purchase on the province’s business industry.

MR. MURPHY: Mr. Speaker, the recent contract for new ferries has the business community in the Province asking questions. They are upset. The Tory Blue Book of broken promises allowed for Newfoundland and Labrador content in the purchase of the new ferries.

The Transportation Safety Board recently released its report into the accident in Portugal Cove involving the Beaumont Hamel. The report cites issues with crew fatigue, such as long hours and little rest.
