NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) had varied questions for several ministers in the House of Assembly today.

 

MR. SPEAKER: The hon. the Member for St. John’s Centre.

MS ROGERS: Mr. Speaker, since we do not have a housing division in government, my question has to be for the Premier.

 

NDP Housing critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) questioned the provincial government on its commitment to affordable housing.

Rogers reminded those on the government benches of a promise in their 2011 election campaign “Blue Book” to help families with relatively low incomes purchase modestly-priced homes.

 

People in communities in every corner of the province are having problems finding affordable housing, and NDP Housing critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) is appalled that this week’s provincial budget is doing nothing to help with the escalating housing crisis.

 

NDP Housing Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) said today the provincial government must take leadership as the Department of National Defence vacates housing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

NDP Leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) says she is hopeful today’s Throne Speech indicates the Dunderdale Conservatives finally plan to pay attention to some issues she has been highlighting for years. At the same time, however, she says there remain some gaping holes in government policy.
