NDP Justice critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) says discontinuing the valuable work of the Family Violence Intervention Court was a bad decision, made hastily in a kneejerk reaction to budget demands.

Tomorrow she is giving the government the opportunity to reconsider that error.

NDP Justice Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) says government budget cuts for the RCMP are being reflected in increased petty crime rates in rural communities of the province. She used a town in Conception Bay North as an example.

“Government cut the budget for the RCMP by $4.3 Million negatively affecting rural communities,” Rogers said in the House of Assembly today.

Government has hidden the sexual exploitation report and its ten pages of recommendations for two-and-a-half years. Mr. Speaker, youth are being sexually exploited for shelter, for food, and for drugs. They are in danger right now.
