NDP Fire and Emergency Service critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) thinks government is more talk than action when it comes to public safety. Murphy first raised the subject of “Move Over” legislation last October.

MR. MURPHY: Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker, this is National Police Week, a time we remember those peace officers who have been killed and injured on the job. We can begin helping them do their job in safety by passing move-over legislation. The government has had move-over legislation on the books now for the last two sessions.

The “Move Over” laws that exist in all but two provinces are needed here to protect police, emergency responders, and highway construction workers, says NDP Transportation and Works Critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East). He has written to the Minister of Justice asking for the change to be made to the Highways Traffic Act.
