NDP Justice Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) says rising crime rates are a very real concern in rural Newfoundland, despite assurances to the contrary received from government last week in the House of Assembly. Since she raised the issue on Thursday of last week, she has been made aware of at least one town which has written government with their concerns.
NDP Justice Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) says government budget cuts for the RCMP are being reflected in increased petty crime rates in rural communities of the province. She used a town in Conception Bay North as an example.
“Government cut the budget for the RCMP by $4.3 Million negatively affecting rural communities,” Rogers said in the House of Assembly today.
