The NDP Caucus is concerned about the elimination of salaried physician positions and the fact that 50,000 people in Newfoundland and Labrador don’t have access to a family doctor. Leader Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) says we understand that some salaried physician positions will be eliminated around the province this year.

NDP leader Lorraine Michael (MHA, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi) and St. John’s Centre MHA Gerry Rogers participated in the Premier’s Health Summit yesterday. Michael says the premier should get a copy of the 2003 framework document Moving Forward Together: Mobilizing Primary Health Care if he wants to know how to build a primary health care framework.

This is Diabetes Awareness Month; today in the House of Assembly, Michael focused on the important role primary and preventative care can play in managing this particular disease.
