She says valuable programs have been lost already in the last round of across-the-board cuts, and further removal of funding could be devastating for some of the groups.

 

October is Canadian Autism Awareness Month and Learning Disabilities Awareness Month and Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North), NDP Critic for Education and for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, is launching a petition, calling for a comprehensive autism spectrum disorder strategy for the province.

 

The NDP Critic for Advanced Education and Skills says people with disabilities are still waiting for word on funding for the school year. Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) says peoples’ lives remain in limbo while they wait for word from the department.

 

NDP Advanced Education and Skills critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) says a program that helps people with disabilities access post-secondary education and training is in limbo, with applicants being told it is “under review” even as they attempt to finalize their arrangements for college or university studies in the fall.

 

NDP Status of Persons with Disabilities Critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) wants to know when government plans to notify recipients of the Accessible Vehicle Funding grants and Inclusion Grants.

 

NDP Education Critic Dale Kirby (MHA, St. John’s North) took time in the House of Assembly today to point out the particular need of students with disabilities for protection against bullying. Kirby asked the Minister of Education what specific plans he has to protect this group of students.
