The Department of Justice plans to shrink the number of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division offices on the Great Northern Peninsula, and the area MHA says the short-sighted decision is unacceptable.

 

NDP Environment Critic George Murphy (MHA, St. John’s East) hopes government will improve on its poor record and follow up more quickly on species at risk recommendations.

 

NDP Justice Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) says the latest round of budget cut reversals is further proof that very little thought went into government’s irresponsible budget cuts.

Media reports today say the Department of Justice will rehire 25 people laid off just weeks ago.

NDP MHA Christopher Mitchelmore (The Straits-White Bay North) is bewildered by cuts to the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division that leave only one active enforcement officer for the entire Great Northern Peninsula north of Gros Morne National Park.
