Rogers calls for better rental assistance for seniors, asks for housing reports
NDP Housing Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) had a suggestion for government today on one way to help seniors attempting to deal with the current and growing housing crisis they face.
“We are in a housing crisis province wide,” Rogers said today in the House of Assembly.” I have repeatedly asked the minister if he would consider a specialized rental assistance program for Seniors, similar to the one in BC where the rent sup goes directly to the senior so they have the right to choose the best location to live. This makes total sense. Seniors know where they need to live in order to be close to their support systems and services.
“I ask the Minister, why will he not do this?”
Rogers also used Question Period to ask again what has become of two important housing reports commissioned by government.
“The Residential Tenancy Act Review consultations were completed in 2012. On April 7 I asked the Minister when he was going to release the report with all the recommendations,” she said.
“I ask the Minister once again, why is he not releasing the report of the Residential Tenancy Act Review with all its recommendations?
“I ask the Minister once again where is the Report for the Homelessness Review? What is he hiding?”
